Hello,

does anyone know if vms is freely redistributable and if so, up to which
version?

Bitsavers has VMS up to version 5.5.2, can I suppose that from 1.5 to
5.5 is it free redistributable?

Many thanks. :)

Ciao.

Fabio.

Yes (many people know).

Source code? No versions.

Source code? No. No version of VMS is freely distributable.

The binaries, e.g. the installation CD? I was told by a DEC employee
that it is OK to borrow the media for installation. (Companies with
thousands of VMS machines don't have thousands of installation CDs for
the same version). Of course, one has to have a licence.

No, it isn't. Sometimes you are allowed to download install kits from
a public place as part of a licence, and sometimes you are allowed to
borrow media if you also have a hobbyist licence, but apart from that,
it isn't freely redistributable.

No.

Also, having the media would do you no good unless you have a valid
hobbyist or other licence and the VAX hobbyist program is long over.
